Welcome to TexAss Longears Ranch, home of the finest miniature donkeys in South Central Texas. Our ADMS registered miniature donkeys have been selected for conformation, disposition, and color. We specialize in spotted, gray, and dark miniatures.
The miniature donkey is a breed developed in the Mediterranean (Sicily and Sardinia) for their small size. They can pack 75 - 100 pounds, carry a small child, and pull a cart or wagon singly or as a team. Their outstanding intelligence and easygoing disposition makes them easy to train, and their loving dispositions make them ideal family pets.
TexAss Longears Ranch has raised miniature donkeys since 1998. We give our donkeys lots of love and attention. We breed for excellent conformation and small size (33" or smaller). We take pride in our donkeys and invite you to come visit and learn more about the affectionate nature of the miniature donkeys.
We recommend that you have an equine companion for your miniature donkey. It may be a horse, a pony, or another miniature donkey. Miniature donkeys form strong friendship ties with their companion animal and they will be much happier.
Miniature donkeys have lower protein requirements than other equines. A diet of good pasture grass (about ½ acre per donkey) is all that is needed along with a mineral block and fresh water. Horse-quality hay may be fed in the winter. Alfalfa is not recommended for miniature donkeys. Lactating jennets (female donkeys) may be fed one level cup of oats or ten percent protein sweet feed daily until their foal is weaned. Worming with a paste wormer like ivermectrin should be done four times annually, or more often in very warm climates. Our donkeys are wormed six times a year.
TexAss Longears Ranch is located north of Hallettsville, Texas and south of Schulenburg, Texas on U. S. Highway 77. The miniature donkey ranch is 100 miles from Houston, San Antonio, and Austin. A bed and breakfast (Enchanted Oaks Lodge) is located on the ranch for your convenience when visiting. Please make a reservation for these accommodations.
